So far in this section–Life of Buddha–we focused on the birth, childhood and youth of Siddhartha. As
Siddhartha witnessed the four sights or truths of life, he wished to find a solution to unshackle everyone from suffering. In this part, we focus on Siddhartha renouncing luxuries to understand the reason for suffering.
Discord within the Sangha As per The Buddha and His Dhamma by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Siddhartha was initiated into the sangha of the Sakyas when he reached the age of twenty. However, his quest to
find peace led him to many disagreements with his people, especially on the issue with neighbouring group Koliyas.
While, the sangha wanted to wage a war against the Koliyas, Siddhartha disagreed with the option which was so violent. At the end of the tug-of-war between the sangha and Siddhartha, the sangha opted for war, while Siddhartha decided to defy the sangha.
